| ISDN
can offer a speedy and cost effective alternative to traditional
modem Internet access for businesses, particularly if you already
have more than one phone line installed.
 |
ISDN dial-up offers virtually
instant access to the Internet, compared to traditional modems
which can take up to 30 seconds to connect. ISDN connects
in about 1 second. |
 |
Using an ISDN router will allow a number
of computers to share a single Internet connection. ie one
call for three or more computers all browsing at the same
time. |
 |
ISDN allows switched access to the Internet,
usually at either 64 or 128 kilobits per second. |
 |
You have the backup of a company committed
to good service - providing you with better value.
|
 |
Once connected ISDN provides a dedicated
connection, as opposed to Broadband, which is "contended".
ie connections are shared with other users. In the
worst case a Broadband contention ratio of 50:1 can result
in very low speeds. |
 |
OfficeLink IT are one of the few providers
that offer a 128 kilobits per second service. |
 |
Our optional ‘Complete
Package’ deal offers everything you need to get
ISDN up and running, including hardware to connect the service
to your computer. This is all pre-programed, ready to use
and easy to install (note any suitable ISDN equipment will
operate with our service) |

What
do I need? |
We recommend a router for shared ISDN Internet connection between
computers. To maximise cost effectiveness, we program our routers
(as part of the Complete Service) to automatically dial the Internet
service provider when required, and disconnect when the user has
finished online activity.
For single computers you can use an ISDN card, or a USB connected
ISDN adapter. All our services work with standard modem dial-up
access.
OfficeLink IT will advise you on how to connect to an ISDN connected
phone system (or PBX). Contact
us for details.
ISDN
Costs |
Call control is essential for ISDN to work economically. Without
automatic connection and disconnection, you run the risk of generating
excessive Internet call costs. ISDN Routers must be programmed correctly
to avoid this. Firewall filters can also be used to control calls,
as well as providing
security.
OfficeLink IT have come to the assistance of many businesses
who have suffered the consequences of inadequate ISDN
solutions and installations. Without this expertise, bills can
often be as high as £500 per quarter.
Cost wise, if you already have more than one phone line installed,
ISDN may well be a viable option for you. An ISDN line costs approximately
the same to rent as two analogue lines. For
upgrade from analogue installations, we have a paper giving details
of costs of installation of various BT ISDN including Home Highway,
Business Highway and ISDN2E. Please Contact
