What
do I need? |
Broadband ADSL Internet access requires a BT telephone line. You
will also need either a Broadband modem or router, plus a micro-filter,
which we can supply. As well as DIY, OfficeLink IT offer both
self install and IT Specialist installation options.

How
does it work? |
Broadband ADSL uses a range of tones or frequencies called discrete
multi-frequency tones (or DMT). There are up to 256 downstream tones,
and 32 upstream tones. The range of frequencies on the line for
ADSL range from 26 Kilohertz up to 1100 Kilohertz. Filters separate
these tones from frequencies used for telephone calls. One filter
is at the subscriber end, another is at the BT exchange end. Circuits
terminate on a DSLAM (digital subscriber line access module) at
the BT exchange to provide ADSL service. Part of the equipment is
the filter, which separates off the telephone service. This is in
turn connected to standard exchange equipment. The DSLAM provides
an ATM connection to OfficeLink IT's ISP service.
